An eight-year-old boy, Mohamed Sesay, formerly residing at Gbappi Compound in Taiama Town, Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, tragically drowned in the Boboyea Stream on Friday morning, July 17, 2026.
According to his guardian, Mamanya, Mohamed left home without her knowledge during the morning hours. She said she only learned of his whereabouts after receiving the devastating news that the child had drowned.
The incident occurred at the Boboyea Stream, a tributary of the Jong River, popularly known as the Taia River.
The tragedy has left family members, neighbours, and residents of Taiama in mourning, with many expressing shock over the untimely death of the young boy.
The incident has also renewed calls from community members for parents and guardians to closely supervise children, particularly during the rainy season when rivers and streams become swollen and pose greater risks.
Authorities are expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
