The U.S. Embassy in Freetown has announced that the Peace Corps is accepting applications from American citizens interested in serving as volunteers in Health and Education programmes across Sierra Leone.
In an announcement issued on Saturday, September 5, 2026, the Embassy said the recruitment is open to Americans living in Sierra Leone who are interested in supporting communities through volunteer service.
The Peace Corps, a U.S. government agency, places American volunteers in communities overseas to work alongside local leaders, strengthen community capacity, address identified needs and foster lasting relationships between Americans and the people they serve.
The current recruitment includes opportunities for Maternal and Child Health Educators, Education Teachers and Peace Corps Response volunteers.
Maternal and Child Health Educators will support initiatives focused on early childhood health, nutrition and community wellness, while Education Teachers will serve at primary or secondary school level, teaching English or mathematics and science and collaborating with local teachers to strengthen students’ foundational skills.
The Peace Corps is also seeking experienced professionals for its Response programme, which provides short-term assignments involving specialised, high-impact work.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old and be U.S. citizens. The Embassy said the opportunities are intended for individuals committed to collaborative community service and making a lasting contribution.
