A young school girl from Kpandemie village, Koya Chiefdom is recovering after enduring a horrific sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) attack that has shocked the local community.

The alleged perpetrator, identified as Momoh Kamara, has been apprehended and is currently in police custody.

The victim, who was admitted to Kenema Government Hospital in March following the assault, was discharged on May 15, 2025. She is now under the care of the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs in Kenema, where she has been temporarily placed at the Ministry’s Counseling Center for survivors of gender-based violence.

Reports indicated that she is comfortably residing at the center alongside her elder sister, who has been a constant support during her hospitalization.

Victor Macarthy, the Assistant Director of the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, provided an update on the situation, expressing gratitude to all individuals and organizations that contributed to the victim’s welfare. The acknowledgment came during a Gender and Child Protection coordination meeting held on May 14, 2025.

The Ministry is reportedly working on arrangements to ensure the victim’s safe return to school, emphasizing the importance of her education and well-being as she continues her recovery.
