A 37-year-old healthcare worker with the Western Area Rural District Health Management Team is appealing for public assistance to raise approximately US$15,000 for specialised orthopaedic surgery in India after sustaining multiple pelvic fractures in a motor vehicle accident while on duty.
Mohamed F. Kamara was injured on July 16, 2026, while collecting drugs for HIV/AIDS patients. Following the accident, he was taken to the Emergency Hospital at Goderich, where he received treatment and remained under observation before being discharged.
Although Kamara received emergency treatment, subsequent medical investigations revealed multiple complex fractures affecting his pelvic ring and right hip.
A CT scan of his pelvis identified fractures involving the superior and inferior pubic rami, right acetabulum, right iliac crest and the posterior portion of the right acetabulum.
The scan also showed fresh blood-density areas around the inner surface of the iliac bone, findings consistent with recent traumatic injury.
The extent of the injuries means that Kamara requires further specialist orthopaedic management rather than relying solely on the emergency treatment he initially received.
Following his discharge from the Emergency Hospital at Goderich, Kamara was taken to New Hope Hospital, where he was assessed by Dr. Nabieu.
The doctor recommended that Kamara seek specialised orthopaedic treatment in India.
A separate assessment was subsequently conducted by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Rady at Freetown International Hospital, who also advised that surgical intervention was required.
These assessments have reinforced the need for Kamara to obtain specialist orthopaedic care to address the injuries sustained in the accident.
Kamara’s medical records were also reviewed by Dr Ashok Raju Gottemukkala, Clinical Director and Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at CARE Hospitals in Hyderabad, India.
After reviewing his medical records, X-rays and clinical findings, Dr Gottemukkala recommended Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) involving the iliac wing, superior pubic rami and acetabulum, subject to comprehensive medical evaluation.
ORIF is a surgical technique used to reposition fractured bones and stabilise them with internal fixation devices to support proper healing.
For Kamara, the recommended procedure relates to fractures affecting parts of the pelvis and hip that play important roles in supporting body weight and enabling normal movement.
The estimated US$15,000 required for Kamara’s treatment covers more than the surgery itself.
The funds are expected to cover specialist medical evaluation and investigations, orthopaedic surgery, hospital admission and postoperative care, as well as international travel for Kamara and one attendant.
The appeal also includes costs associated with accommodation, local transportation and other essential medical-related expenses during the treatment period in India.
Kamara has already received emergency care following the accident, but his definitive orthopaedic treatment remains outstanding.
With medical assessments pointing to the need for further orthopaedic treatment and surgery, Kamara is now appealing to individuals, organisations and the wider public for financial assistance.
The requested support would help him travel to India and undergo the specialist treatment recommended by the medical professionals who have assessed his condition.
