The High Court of Sierra Leone has ordered the transfer of the high-profile suit involving popular media personality Babina “Lolo” Simeon and Kings Empire (SL) Ltd from the Fast Track Commercial Court to the High Court’s General Civil Division.
The ruling, delivered by Justice A. Fisher, marks a major procedural development in the legal battle, establishing that the mixed civil and tortious claims brought forward extend beyond the scope of a specialized commercial court.
Justice Fisher determined that the allegations and counterclaims presented in the case, which include breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, intentional infliction of emotional harm, and defamation, do not fall exclusively under commercial law.
Alongside the transfer order, the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff regarding preliminary legal costs.
The defendants have been ordered to pay Le10,000 in legal costs to the plaintiff’s solicitors within seven days of the ruling.
The High Court has adjourned the matter to Monday, July 27, 2026, when further proceedings will resume under the General Civil Division.
The plaintiff’s legal team is headed by counsel S.K. Koroma, whose arguments were central to establishing that the suit required the broader jurisdiction of the General Civil Division to ensure a comprehensive trial of all claims.
