“She Would Not Have Died If She Had Followed Her Home Training” – Pastor Says at Gen Z Reporter’s Funeral
Sahid Bangura Pastor Amos, who presided over the funeral service of late Sierra Leonean journalist Glorious Aminata Bangura, popularly known as the “Gen Z Reporter,” has suggested that she might have lived longer if she had adhered to the spiritual and moral teachings she received through her home training.
Speaking during her funeral service in Freetown on Monday, September 7, 2026, the pastor reflected on the importance of upbringing, discipline and adherence to religious teachings in fulfilling one’s purpose in life.
The pastor said that if Bangura had chosen to follow the training and ethical teachings she received at home, he believed she would not have died at this time and would have had the opportunity to fulfil her purpose.
“Peradventure they gave her the training, if she had chosen to subscribe to the home training, the ethics being given to her, I don’t think she would have been dead by now; she would have fulfilled purpose,” the pastor said.
He further emphasised the importance of following established teachings, urging mourners to reflect on the consequences of disregarding moral and spiritual guidance.
In support of his message, the pastor cited Joshua 1:8, which encourages believers to keep the Book of the Law on their lips, meditate on it continually and carefully follow its teachings.
The remarks formed part of the pastor’s message as family, friends, colleagues and sympathisers gathered to bid their final farewell to Bangura, whose death has prompted tributes from Sierra Leone’s media, entertainment and wider youth communities.
