Lead Counsel for former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, Esq., has confirmed that all criminal charges previously filed against his client have been formally discontinued.
In a statement issued on behalf of the former President, Kamara said the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice had filed a Notice of Discontinuance under Section 45 of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2024, bringing an end to the proceedings against Koroma.
The Lead Counsel described the decision as one that supports national peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion, while welcoming the Attorney-General’s use of lawful authority in pursuit of those objectives.
Kamara stated that former President Koroma has at all times respected the judicial process, cooperated with the relevant authorities, and complied with all bail conditions imposed during the legal proceedings.
He added that following the discontinuance of the case, Koroma’s bail has been discharged, allowing him to return to Sierra Leone whenever he chooses.
The legal team said Koroma considers the matter closed and remains committed to contributing to national peace, dialogue, and development upon his return, while also spending time with his family.
Kamara further expressed appreciation to President Julius Maada Bio, the Government of Sierra Leone, the people of Sierra Leone, the international community, co-counsels, and colleagues who supported the former President throughout the legal process.
