Health authorities in Kambia have urged hospital staff to strengthen accountability, professionalism and teamwork as part of efforts to improve patient care and health outcomes in the district.

The call came during a staff engagement on August 18, 2026, involving the Kambia Government Hospital and the District Health Management Team, led by District Medical Officer Dr Sarah Conteh.

Conteh commended healthcare workers for their commitment and urged them to maintain their efforts while contributing to the 300 Days of Activism and its national priorities of zero preventable maternal deaths, zero preventable child deaths and zero-dose children.

She also reminded staff of their responsibilities to protect patient confidentiality and maintain ethical and professional standards.

According to Conteh, healthcare workers should ensure that patients and their relatives are treated with dignity, patience, respect and compassion throughout their interactions with the health system.

She also raised concerns about practices that could unnecessarily inconvenience or frustrate patients, urging staff to communicate respectfully and work together to address patients’ needs.

Conteh said effective healthcare delivery depends on a coordinated team capable of providing services that are safe, timely, responsive and compassionate.

Medical Superintendent Dr Esther Kpakiwa thanked the DHMT for engaging hospital workers directly and praised Conteh for maintaining collaboration with hospital management.

Kpakiwa likewise emphasised confidentiality, professionalism and patient-centred care, saying the behaviour of healthcare workers can shape patients’ experiences and their confidence in health services.

She warned that staff members whose conduct unnecessarily frustrates patients could face appropriate administrative measures under established procedures and regulations.

The meeting ended with hospital management, the DHMT and healthcare workers reaffirming their commitment to working together to improve healthcare delivery and health outcomes across Kambia District.
