A 20-year-old commercial tricycle rider, Abu Bakarr Turay, has reportedly been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road after appearing in court on fraud charges.

Turay appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah, where he faced a charge relating to the alleged fraudulent conversion of property.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on Saturday, 6 June 2026, at Sky Junction in Leicester within the Mountain Rural District. Prosecutors alleged that the accused unlawfully converted a black HLX 150 motorcycle bearing registration number AZO104 to his personal use.

The motorcycle, valued at Le31,000, was reportedly entrusted to the accused by Alhaji Koroma for communal use. However, the prosecution alleged that Turay misappropriated the motorcycle for his own benefit.

When the charge was read and explained in court, no plea was taken from the accused because the matter is currently before the court on committal proceedings.

Leading the prosecution, DPC 18456 Linda Teh informed the court that the accused had been served with the case and inquiry file. The prosecutor further stated that the defendant acknowledged receipt of the relevant documents.

Considering the nature and seriousness of the allegation, Magistrate Jah denied the accused bail and ordered that he be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road pending further proceedings.

The matter has been adjourned to 30 June 2026 for continuation of the case.
