Residents of Koidu Town in Kono District have taken community action to confront the growing misuse of Kush among young people, with youths from Post Office Road and surrounding communities staging a coordinated street mobilisation on Sunday night.
The youths moved through several areas identified as hotspots for public Kush consumption, including Konomanyi Park, where they reportedly confronted and dispersed individuals found smoking the substance.
The action comes amid growing concerns among residents and community leaders over the impact of Kush abuse on young people and the wider community. Residents say the increasing presence of the substance in public spaces requires stronger community intervention and sustained awareness campaigns.
Post Office Road, Konomanyi Park and neighbouring areas have been identified among the locations affected by the growing problem.
Community members are now calling for increased collaboration among residents, local authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen efforts aimed at preventing substance abuse and protecting young people in Koidu Town.
