Five representatives from each of 200 local SLPP support groups have formally registered with district party executives, a procedural step that consolidates grassroots backing for flagbearer aspirant Alhaji Musa Tarawally ahead of the 2028 elections.
The registration meeting was convened on July 27 at the SLPP district office in Kono District, where attendees also discussed campaign strategy for Tarawally, who has received endorsements from young-generation leaders across 110 constituencies nationwide. The event operated under the banner “Agenda MT Vision 2028,” a platform focused on shifting Sierra Leone’s political culture toward productivity and wealth creation.
The move signals Tarawally’s continued organisational push in Kono, a district he has described as central to his political identity. “Those who you see today making names in Moyamba have their roots in Kono District,” Tarawally stated during an earlier declaration ceremony.
The development occurs amid broader SLPP preparations for leadership succession. President Julius Maada Bio, speaking at the party’s 75th anniversary, stressed that the 2028 flagbearer selection must be transparent and merit-based, cautioning against factionalism. The party’s new Kono office, commissioned in May 2026 and named the Amina Maada Bio Hall, has become a focal point for political alignment ahead of the polls.
Tarawally has remained active in party discourse, recently welcoming the construction of the SLPP’s Kono office while publicly criticising its naming after First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, which he called “way out of line“.
The Kono district party office continues to serve as a central hub for political coordination, with the registered support groups pledging to mobilise voters for Tarawally’s candidacy under the motto: “We Unite, Secure and Mobilise Wealth to our People”.
