Paramount Chief P.C. Sheku A.K.M. Koroma (Gbujan II) of Futta Pejeh Chiefdom and members of the Koroma family have donated 12 bags of rice and financial assistance to vulnerable pupils of Wanjama Government Secondary School for Girls (WGSSG) in Pujehun District.

The donation was made on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, to support girls from vulnerable backgrounds and encourage them to remain in school and pursue their education.

The assistance also includes one year of tuition support for the highest-performing pupil from Pejeh Chiefdom attending the school.

Presenting the donation on behalf of the family, Paramount Chief Koroma, who also chairs the Council of Paramount Chiefs in Pujehun District, said the family was pleased to contribute to the welfare and education of the pupils.

He said the family believes in supporting vulnerable people, particularly children, and recognises education as an important tool for transforming the lives of young people and their communities.

According to him, the Koroma family has continued to support pupils since the school was established last year, particularly those residing in its boarding facility.

He expressed the family’s willingness to continue providing assistance whenever possible and encouraged the pupils to take their education seriously.

The Paramount Chief urged the girls to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their studies, encouraging them to make the most of the educational opportunities available to them.

“Your education is your future,” he said, urging the pupils to work hard and believe in their ability to achieve their aspirations.

Receiving the donation, the Acting Principal of WGSSG, Juliana Faiya Kargbo, thanked the Koroma family for its continued support to the school and its pupils.

She described the donation as a demonstration of the family’s concern for vulnerable girls and expressed appreciation for its assistance to pupils from Pejeh Chiefdom.

Kargbo said the school administration valued the family’s contributions, which she noted would help improve pupils’ welfare and support a conducive learning environment.

She also called on other prominent families, individuals and stakeholders in Pujehun District to follow the example of the Koroma family by visiting the school, engaging with pupils and providing support according to their means.

She said the school has pupils with the potential to perform well at national and other levels, but emphasised that sustained support from stakeholders would help them realise their potential.

The Board Chairperson of WGSSG, Madam Judith Umu Lahai, also expressed appreciation to the Koroma family, describing the donation as timely and valuable.

Lahai said the family had consistently supported the pupils since the school’s establishment, adding that its contributions had made a positive difference to their welfare.

She encouraged other families, organisations and individuals in the district to contribute towards the welfare of the girls, noting that even modest donations could make a meaningful difference.

She explained that WGSSG operates as a full boarding school, which requires considerable resources to provide food and other essential needs for pupils.

The board chairperson therefore appealed for additional support to help the school meet the needs of its pupils and strengthen its capacity to provide quality education.

The donation highlights the role of community leaders, families and other stakeholders in supporting girls’ education, particularly for pupils from vulnerable backgrounds.
