The Kenema Police Division has on the 19th March, 2024 arrested a man for allegedly impersonating the Sierra Leone Police.

Vandy Genda was reportedly arrested with the help of the local authorities of Lango Town section in Kenema City.

He was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigations into the motives behind this impersonation and to ascertain whether the suspect was involved in any illicit activities while masquerading as an officer.

Inspector Mohamed Corneh, the Operations Officer, Kenema Division revealed that the alleged fake Police officer was caught wearing a full police uniform with his illegal operations in the Lango-Town section.

He furthered that, the attention of the Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs) and other local authorities was drawn to this particular man of his real identity for which they alerted the police for a quick response in getting the man in question, adding that, the police acted promptly and apprehended the man for proper questioning.

He appreciated the efforts of the people of Lango Town, and also urged formed CSVs in other sections to as well remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to help maintain law and order in the Division.

The Local Unit Commander (LUC), Kenema Division; CSP Edison Vandy, thanked the CSVs and the local authorities of Lango Town section for their swift interception and effective information sharing executed, which led to the successful apprehension and detention of the suspect.

He maintained that, impersonating a police officer does not only violate the law but also undermines public trust in law enforcement agencies. He thanked both the community and the operations wings of the Kenema Division for such a move, noting that these were all positive dividends of community Policing Partnership.
