Mortai Abdul Charles Sesay has been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre following his arraignment at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 on charges of burglary and malicious damage. The ruling came from Magistrate Kakura on Tuesday, April 9, 2025.

Mortai Sesay faces two counts: burglary, in violation of the Larceny Act of 1916, and malicious damage under the Malicious Damage Act of 1861.

The charges stem from an incident at the home of Isatu Conteh in Kamayama, Lumley, where he allegedly broke into her residence with the intent to steal. Additionally, he is accused of damaging an electricity meter belonging to Isatu Conteh, valued at Le3,500.

During the proceedings, Conteh testified that on the night of the alleged crime, she heard suspicious noises near her electricity meter around 9:00 p.m. Upon investigation, she discovered that the meter had been tampered with and found Isatu Sesay on her property. She raised an alarm, leading to his apprehension until police arrived the next morning.

Magistrate Kakura, citing the seriousness of the offenses, refused bail for Mortai Sesay and scheduled the next court appearance for May 12, 2025.
