A judge in Freetown on Monday sentenced one Alhaji Baima Kanneh to 26 years in prison after he was found guilty of sexual penetration contrary to section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.

According to the prosecution, on a date unknown between the August 11 and September 5, 2021 in Freetown, the culprit engaged in an act of sexual penetration with a child.

During the trial, the prosecution led four witnesses, including the victim who confirmed in her testimony that the accused person was her boyfriend who took her to his residence when they met sometimes in August 2021 after she absconded from home.

She said the accused person proposed love to her and thereafter he started have sex intercourse with her.

Justice Komba Kamanda said the at he found the evidence of the prosecution against the accused substantial and overwhelming

“Taking advantage of a child and keep her for almost a month in the accused person’s place without taking the child to the police station is unacceptable. The court will send a message that the perpetrators of such act will severely be punished,” he noted.
