Legal Aid Board Defense Lawyer, Mohamed Korie Esq Secures Release of 59 Inmates from Port Loko Prison
Aaron Parker A total of 59 inmates mostly young offenders aged 18 to 30 were released from the Port Loko Correctional Center on July 1, 2025, following a special court session presided over by Justice Momoh Jah Steven.
The release was the result of successful legal representation by Mohamed Korie Esq., National Supervisor and Defense Lawyer of the Legal Aid Board, in a major push to promote rehabilitation and access to justice.
During the emotional release ceremony, Lawyer Korie thanked President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for his commitment to judicial reforms and commended Justice Steven for his compassionate ruling.
Speaking on behalf of the Legal Aid Board’s Executive Director, he stressed the importance of second chances for youth and urged the freed inmates to embrace personal growth, lawful living, and skill development.
Korie also reminded them that freedom of movement is a fundamental right and encouraged them to use it wisely. The ceremony was marked by emotional scenes as inmates expressed gratitude to Korie and the Legal Aid Board for their advocacy. Their formal discharge by the correctional center’s manager closed the proceedings on a hopeful note.
This successful intervention highlights the Legal Aid Board’s crucial role in defending vulnerable citizens and advancing restorative justice in Sierra Leone.
