False reports claiming the death of popular Sierra Leonean footballer Musa Noah Kamara, widely known as Musa Tombo, have been circulating on social media and other online platforms.
The reports alleged that the former Leone Stars international died in a road accident in Bo District, prompting concern among fans, friends and members of the public.
However, members of Musa Tombo’s family have dismissed the reports as false and urged the public to disregard the information.
In a message shared by his wife, Memzo Timbo, also known as Memunatu Sow, she assured friends, family and the wider public that the footballer is alive and well.
The family also thanked those who reached out to check on Musa Tombo following the circulation of the reports and appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified information.
Musa Tombo remains one of Sierra Leone’s best-known footballers and has represented the country at international level with the Leone Stars.
The prolific striker has won several Golden Boot awards in the Sierra Leone Premier League during spells with clubs including East End Lions, Bo Rangers and Ports Authority.
He also etched his name in Sierra Leonean football history after scoring a memorable goal for the Leone Stars at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The latest reports have once again highlighted concerns over the rapid spread of unverified information on social media, particularly concerning the health and safety of public figures.
Members of the public are encouraged to verify sensitive information through credible sources, including the individual’s family, the Sierra Leone Football Association and established media organisations, before sharing such reports online.
