ICPNC Steps In as Bitter Land Dispute Divides Two Families in Bo

The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) has begun efforts to restore peace between two families involved in a longstanding land dispute in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District.

According to the Commission, it conducted a fact-finding and peace mediation mission on August 18, 2026, to Gbanyama and Pendengumahun villages, where the Kobba and Kaimapo families have remained divided over a disputed piece of land.

The mission was led by the ICPNC Southern Regional Coordinator, Belinda Ndanema, as part of the Commission’s efforts to better understand the dispute and create an opportunity for dialogue between the two families.

The dispute has continued despite a court ruling in favour of the Kobba family. While the court has addressed the legal aspect of the matter, the ruling has not brought an end to the tension and strained relationship between the two families.

During the mission, the Commission established contact with a representative of one of the families, providing an opportunity for the representative to present the family’s position and share information about the dispute.

Ndanema said the Commission’s intervention is aimed at helping the parties find a peaceful way forward and maintain peaceful relations, while respecting the existing legal decision.

She explained that the visit formed part of the Commission’s efforts to listen to the parties and gain a deeper understanding of the issues that continue to affect relations between the two families.

The ICPNC described the mission as the beginning of a mediation process rather than a final resolution of the longstanding land dispute, with further engagement expected as the Commission works towards promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence between the affected families.
