The East End Division of the Sierra Leone Police executed a decisive raid at the Cow Yard Market on Hagan Street on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024.
The operation culminated in the arrest of Iye Jozy, infamously known as the “Mammy Queen” of Kent Street, a notorious figure in the local drug trade. Alongside her, officers apprehended Hamza Osman Kamara, her errand boy and a resident of Mammy Yoko Street.
The operation, meticulously planned and executed, resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected kush. Officers recovered a total of 1,060 raps of the illicit substance, divided into 780 and 280 raps respectively. This significant haul underscores the scale of the illegal operation purportedly overseen by Jozy, whose moniker “Mammy Queen” reflects her reputed dominance in the local drug scene.
The seized kush was promptly taken into custody and handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department at the East End Police Station. This move ensures that the exhibits will be subject to rigorous forensic analysis and form the basis for further investigative efforts aimed at dismantling the broader network of narcotics distribution in the area.
The successful raid at Cow Yard Market highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and the East End Police Division’s commitment to combating drug-related crime. The apprehension of Jozy and Kamara represents a significant blow to the local kush trade and demonstrates the police’s dedication to restoring safety and order in the community.
