Police officers stationed at the Mile 38 Checkpoint have arrested a man after allegedly discovering suspected cannabis hidden inside a vehicle during a routine stop-and-search operation.

The arrest took place on Saturday, 9 May 2026, under the supervision of Superintendent Foday Sorie Fofanah, Officer Commanding (O.C.) Mile 38.

The suspect, identified as Mohamed Sheriff, a driver reportedly residing in Kissy, Freetown, was intercepted while driving a vehicle with registration number AXO 085.

According to police reports, officers conducted a detailed search of the vehicle and uncovered a concealed compartment beneath the rear seat. Inside the hidden section, police allegedly recovered eleven parcels of dry leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

Both the suspect and the recovered substances are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The Sierra Leone Police have not yet released further details regarding possible charges or the intended destination of the seized substances.
