The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has held a school sensitisation programme in Rutile to educate pupils about drug abuse, violence, child abuse and early marriage, as part of efforts to raise awareness of issues affecting young people.

The programme took place on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, under the leadership of Rutile Division Local Unit Commander Superintendent Ahmed Tejan Salif.

During the engagement, Salif explained the meaning of violence and disorderly conduct. He urged pupils to report their concerns through appropriate channels and settle disagreements peacefully rather than resorting to violence.

Augustine Nallo of the Family Support Unit addressed child abuse and sexual harassment, explaining the penalties for such offences and advising pupils on ways to protect themselves.

The division’s Operations Officer, ASP Mohamed F. Mattia, also highlighted the dangers of drug abuse and its harmful effects.

The session included a question-and-answer segment, allowing pupils to raise questions and participate in discussions on the issues.

School principal Ibrahim Koroma welcomed the police initiative and called for more awareness programmes to help address these challenges among pupils.

The engagement focused on educating young people about harmful behaviour, their safety and the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means.
