A team of armed Police Officers have reportedly attacked, beaten, stripped naked, and left in a pool of blood a disable man in Mara chiefdom, Bombali District.

According to eyewitnesses, the officers from the Sierra Leone Police, entered Mayaingbay village, in Mara chiefdom, on the night of January 26th, 2023, at around 7 p.m. local time, with two police vehicles and assaulted Abdul Sesay, the victim, and his wife.

The registration number of one of the Police vehicles, residents say was SLP 080.

The armed Police officers allegedly looted properties worth millions in local currencies belonging to the poor victim, who is also a popular local businessman in the village.

According to residents, one Francis Fornah, an OSD officer who is speculated to attach to the Central Police Division in Freetown was the one who led the team to the village. But some residents say the OSD officer who led the team is attached to the Waterloo Police Division.

Francis Fornah is the only one we can identify among the police officers, and he was the one who led the team here to beat our brother,” a resident and eyewitness said.

The OSD officer’s father, Foday Fornah who resides in the village together with the victim was reportedly having an issue with the disabled man and the matter has been under investigation at a local police station.

According to eyewitnesses, it was Foday Fornah who called his son, the OSD officer to come over and beat the victim. It was around 7 p.m., residents say the armed Police officers stormed the village boarded Police vehicles with arms and attacked the poor disabled man who is in his seventies, beating and stripping him naked.

The officers, the villagers said threaten to shoot and kill anyone who attempt to resist their action. Family members of the victim are currently worried about the condition of the loved one. At the time of carrying out the illegal operation, the villagers said, there was pandemonium in the whole village as everybody was running for their lives.

Currently, the wife of the poor victim who was also assaulted by the officers is hospitalized at a local hospital in the Chiefdom, and the whereabouts of the disabled man is still unclear.

Others say the police officers took him along, while others he’s currently in a hospital responding to treatment. The Police are not available for comment.
