The Regional Police Commander for the North West Region, AIG Hillary Sao Kanu, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, engaged the Paramount Chief and community stakeholders of Sanda Magbolonthor Chiefdom in Port Loko District following recent incidents of violence that resulted in the burning of four houses and a motorbike.

The engagement brought together Paramount Chief PC Brima Sanda Jimabu Saidu Kainthor, community leaders, youth representatives and senior police officers, including the Local Unit Commander (LUC) Port Loko, CSP Alphonso A. Fambulleh, and LUC Kamakwie, Superintendent John Koroma.

Discussions focused on promoting peace, unity and community responsibility following the recent incidents.

In his opening remarks, the Paramount Chief attributed some of the challenges facing the Chiefdom to what he described as longstanding lawlessness, which he linked to the prolonged absence of a Paramount Chief.

He stressed the importance of love, respect and unity in promoting peace and development, while appealing for additional police personnel to strengthen security coverage across the Chiefdom.

CSP Alphonso A. Fambulleh urged residents to prioritise peace, vigilance and community development rather than engaging in conflicts associated with political interests.

He also disclosed plans to establish Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs) and Local Policing Partnership Boards (LPPBs) in communities across the area.

Superintendent John Koroma encouraged youth leaders to take responsibility for maintaining peace in their communities. He also reminded community leaders that they would be held accountable for incidents occurring within their respective areas of responsibility.

In her keynote address, AIG Kanu commended elders and community members for supporting the Paramount Chief and emphasised that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility, particularly among young people.

She disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP William Fayia Sellu, had approved the deployment of additional police personnel to Sanda Magbolonthor Chiefdom, with the officers expected to be deployed before the end of the year.

The Regional Police Commander further urged parents and community leaders to closely monitor young people and discourage drug abuse. She called on residents to report individuals suspected of selling illicit drugs and support lawful action against them to help disrupt the supply of illegal substances.

AIG Kanu also urged residents to reject violence, particularly violence arising from political differences, noting that such conflicts can undermine community cohesion and development.

She called on young people, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to work with the Paramount Chief to promote peace and contribute to the development of Sanda Magbolonthor Chiefdom.

Community members welcomed the engagement and expressed appreciation for the Regional Police Commander’s visit and direct dialogue with residents at a time when security and community tensions remain a concern.
