The Sierra Leone Police has recognised the outstanding contribution of retired Superintendent of Police and Paramount Chief of Sanda Magbolontho Chiefdom, Karene District, Chief Sanda Sorie Jim Abu Sankoh V, widely known as Jiminato, for his voluntary role in mentoring and training young police recruits at the Samu Police Training Campus.
The recognition was presented by Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on Thursday, 14 May 2026, in appreciation of the retired officer’s commitment to strengthening professionalism within the Force through the sharing of his extensive policing experience.
According to the Police Chief, Chief Sankoh has been actively supporting the ongoing Advanced Public Order Training programme at the Samu Campus by delivering lectures on tactical operations, weapon handling, discipline, and professional conduct. He described the retired officer’s contribution as timely and impactful, particularly at a period when the Sierra Leone Police continues to place emphasis on discipline, operational efficiency, and professional standards among recruits.
IGP Sellu further stated that the experience and knowledge Chief Sankoh acquired throughout decades of service, including exposure to both local and international policing training, remain valuable assets to the institution. He noted that such contributions from experienced retired officers would help prepare recruits to effectively respond to modern policing challenges.
The Inspector General also used the occasion to encourage other retired senior officers to support the development of the Force by offering mentorship and guidance to younger personnel undergoing training.
Responding to the honour, Chief Sanda Sorie Jim Abu Sankoh V expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police for recognising his efforts and continued service to the institution. He recalled joining the Sierra Leone Police in 1985 and serving for 39 years before retiring from active duty.
He explained that his career journey within the Force saw him rise through the ranks before eventually assuming traditional leadership responsibilities as Paramount Chief of Sanda Magbolontho Chiefdom in 2025.
Chief Sankoh maintained that despite his retirement from active policing, he remains committed to supporting the institution whenever needed, describing the Sierra Leone Police as a body that played a significant role in shaping his life and career.
Addressing the recruits, he urged them to remain disciplined, hardworking, and focused throughout their training, stressing that dedication and commitment are key qualities required for successful policing and national service.
