A communique signed by Sierra Leone Police’s Director of Operations, AIG Mustapha Braima-Jah has revealed proposed itinerary of action by the police against planned protests on Monday and Tuesday.

The letter which was made public late on Sunday evening was addressed to police commanders in Waterloo, Kissy, Central Business District (CBD) and Lumley.

It was also indicated that the proactive action is as a result of the message which was broadcast by a certain ‘Adebayo in Holland’ calling on locals to protest on Monday and Tuesday.

“Intelligence received indicates that some opposition political party members and their sympathisers spearheaded by one Adebayo who resides in Holland are calling on their supporters and general public to stage massive attacks nationwide,” the Police said.

They added that they have learnt that the planned protest wants to use Freetown as similar messages prior to August 10 protests have surfaced.

“The Social media is flooded with threats suggestive of the insurrections that took place on the 10th of August 2022 which resulted in the death of seven police officers and several civilians,” the Police indicated.

They furthered that protest marchers primarily targeted police officers on August 10.

The communique also revealed that the protesters might attack government buildings including State House and Presidential Lodge.

The police said the proposed protest also has the propensity to risk of their personnel and properties.

The said letter was also addressed to the country’s military as well as the Office of National Security (ONS).
