Police in Freetown have confirmed the arrest of Constable, Fatmata Kamara, General Duty Officer attached to the Kenema Police Headquarters for allegedly fatally stabbing another Police Constable, Aruna Sheku Turay at the Kenema Police Barracks on Hanga Road on November 1, 2015.

Aruna died of stab wounds at the Connaught Hospital in Freetown on November 12, less than two weeks after Fatmata and her brother, Mohamed Kamara an OSD officer allegedly stabbed him. Parents of the late CID officer claimed that some senior Police officers in Kenema attempted to kill the matter.

Sierraloaded was told that although the stabbing incident took place in Kenema, Fatmata and her brother both of whom are prime suspects were never questioned let alone detained.

But Police Headquarters in Freetown have jumped in to action by arresting one of the prime suspects, Fatmata.

“When Police Headquarters heard of the sad news of the death of one of us and particularly the circumstances leading to his (Aruna’s) untimely death, Fatmata was rounded up”, Police sources say.

Fatmata and Aruna both of whom were lovers fell out in recent times due to misunderstanding. The female officer had claimed her Police lover was dating another girl and is reported to have threatened to kill him if he continued with that relationship.

With the help of her brother, Mohamed, Fatmata then allegedly succeeded in stabbing Aruna, 34, several times on his back at the Police Barracks in Kenema on November 1, 2015. He died less than two weeks after the incident.

Result of the Post-mortem conducted by Dr Owiss Koroma, Sierra Leone’s leading Pathologist confirmed Aruna died of spinal cord injury, dislocation fracture of thoratic spine at level T9- T10 among other causes.

Natorma Siao Sheriff, Aruna’s step mother expressed the hope that with the arrest of Fatmata, justice will be dispensed without fear or favour.
