Mariana S. Bockarie residing at 1 E-Line Nyandeyama section in Kenema city a 15-year-old JSS 1 pupil at the Community Initiative Academy Secondary School.
Mariama has totally lost both eyes and she is now staying at home permanently. She sat to her first term test but did not continue thereafter.
According to her it was in October 2022 that her mother passed away and they a went to the village for the burial ceremony.
Upon her return to Kenema from the village she started encountering problem with the eyes.
Her right eye became dark in school. When she returned home she explained to her parents. The next day she was taken to the eye department at the government hospital in Kenema. There she was told that the eye encountered problem from the back of head and there is no remedy to it.
Drugs were provided for her and her parents took her to Serabu, Mabeseneh and to Connaught hospital in Freetown. All the doctors spoke the same language. It was in November 2022 that she lost the other eye too.
Every day she has to put medicine on her eyes and she will not be at peace if she fails to do so.
She is calling on the government, humanitarian organizations and individuals to come to her aid. At the moment her grandmother is finding it difficult to support her in terms of food and other amenities.
