Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank) has announced that its Managing Director, Dr. Walton Ekundayo Gilpin, has been named African Banker of the Year 2026 by The Voice Achievers Awards.
According to the Bank, the award recognizes Dr. Gilpin’s leadership and his contribution to transforming the banking sector in Sierra Leone and beyond.
RCBank stated that the recognition reflects the institution’s progress in recent years, describing its growth into a modern, resilient, and customer-focused financial institution under Dr. Gilpin’s leadership.
The Bank noted that during his tenure, operational efficiency has improved, digital banking services have expanded, and access to financial services has increased across the country.
Among the key initiatives highlighted was the Rokel Sim Korpor mobile banking platform, which the Bank said has helped extend banking services to underserved and rural communities, while supporting small businesses, women entrepreneurs, and financial inclusion nationwide.
RCBank further stated that the recognition also reflects its commitment to responsible banking practices, including the integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into its operations.
The Bank added that continued investments in staff development, youth empowerment, and strategic partnerships have also strengthened its contribution to the future of Sierra Leone’s financial sector.
According to the institution, the award is not only a recognition of individual excellence, but also a reflection of the collective efforts of its Board, Management, and Staff.
RCBank said the honour also brings prestige to Sierra Leone’s financial industry by showcasing the country’s progress in strengthening its banking system and demonstrating the capacity of local institutions to compete internationally.
The formal presentation of the award is scheduled to take place on 21 August 2026 in London, United Kingdom.
The Bank reaffirmed its commitment to building on the achievement by continuing to deliver inclusive, innovative, and sustainable financial solutions that support customers and national development.
