Parliamentarians, Traditional Leaders, Civil Society and Champions from different walks of life have reaffirmed their commitments to end child marriage in Sierra Leone.

In a meeting hosted by Save the Children at the Atlantic Lumley hotel on 18 May 2022, Parliamentarians from the Gender and Child Rights Oversight Committee and Paramount Chief Members of Parliament detested child marriage and committed to closing loopholes in the law books that slow the fight.

Paramount chiefs from Kailahun committed to implementing national and local laws at their chiefdoms to ensure that girls grow up to realize their full potential. They promised to take punitive measures on anyone who breaks the law.

Children from the Children’s Forum Network called on stakeholders to action their commitments, because ending child marriage is one sure way they can nurture their successors.
Batu Beatrice Jambawai Sexual and Gender Based Violence Advisor, Office of the Vice President of Sierra Leone chaired the meeting.

The Ending Child Marriage Project – a two year pilot – facilitated this High Level Meeting.
