An alleged scammer, identified as Sajor Jalloh, was reportedly tracked down by a group of youths in Makeni on Saturday, July 25, 2026, over allegations of defrauding a man of more than Le100,000 through a suspected fake overseas travel scheme.
According to the allegations, the victim, a Gambian national identified only as Jalloh, claimed he was persuaded to make several payments after being promised an opportunity to travel abroad.
He said the payments were made in installments using different methods, including cash transactions in Leones and Guinean currency, as well as Orange Money transfers in Guinea.
Speaking on the allegations, Sajor Jalloh denied collecting more than Le100,000 from the complainant. He stated that he became involved with a company identified as Ignite after being informed that it was recruiting workers and insisted that he had not joined the organization with any fraudulent intention.
“I joined a company called Ignite after I was contacted that they were looking for people to work for them. I am now in the system, not to necessarily do bad; I just joined,” he said.
Jalloh further explained that the complainant had obtained his contact through another individual associated with the company and initiated communication with him.
He maintained that he only received US$2,000 from the complainant, adding that he still had a transaction record on his phone to support his claim. According to him, the amount was equivalent to approximately 18 million Guinean francs.
The Gambian complainant, however, insisted that he made multiple payments in pursuit of the promised travel opportunity and believes he was deceived.
Following the confrontation, Sajor Jalloh reportedly agreed to refund the money. He acknowledged that he did not currently have the funds in his possession but said he had reached an understanding with the complainant to arrange repayment.
The matter has drawn public attention in Makeni as concerns continue to grow over alleged fraudulent overseas travel schemes targeting individuals seeking employment and migration opportunities.
At the time of reporting, there was no official confirmation from the Sierra Leone Police regarding any arrest or criminal charges connected to the allegations.
