21-Year-Old Shoemaker Faces High Court Trial Over Alleged Le68,000 Theft in Freetown
Sahid Bangura A 21-year-old shoemaker, Anthony Sahr Koroma, has been reportedly committed to the High Court in Freetown to face trial over allegations of housebreaking and the theft of property valued at Le68,000.
Koroma was committed to the High Court by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 after the court determined that sufficient evidence had been presented during the committal proceedings to warrant the case being transferred for trial.
He is facing one count of Housebreaking and Larceny, contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the alleged offence, Koroma is accused of breaking into the residence of Salamatu Mansaray at Smith Drive, Leicester Village, on April 20, 2026, with the intention of stealing.
The prosecution alleges that a 52-inch plasma television, an Apple computer and other personal belongings were stolen from the residence, with the total value estimated at Le68,000.
During the proceedings, prosecuting officer DPC 17649 Brima Kargbo led the Investigating Officer in presenting and formalising evidence before the court. Following submissions, Magistrate Jah ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to commit the matter to the High Court.
No plea was taken from Koroma because the matter was being heard at the committal stage.
Magistrate Jah subsequently ordered that Koroma be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown pending further proceedings in the High Court.
The allegations against Koroma have not been tested at trial, and he remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court.
