The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) has issued a public warning regarding a fraudulent document currently circulating among local water producers.
The fake notice, dated June 18, 2026, is titled “Notification of Licence and Quality Inspection Exercise.” The SLEWRC categorically denied issuing the document, calling it a clear case of impersonation designed to mislead the public, water factories, and production companies.
The Commission emphasized that it is the only legal body authorized to regulate, inspect, and enforce compliance within the water production sector. No other organization has the authority to conduct these exercises without the SLEWRC’s express permission and coordination.
Legitimate compliance checks are, however, still on the agenda. The SLEWRC noted that it had already informed all bottle and sachet water producers about an official, upcoming enforcement exercise in a legitimate public notice released on June 10, 2026.
Authorities are urging the public to completely disregard the fraudulent June 18th notice and treat it as null and void. Anyone who is served with this fake document is advised to report the incident immediately to the nearest police station or directly to the Commission.
