Police have arrested a man suspected of armed robbery after recovering a locally made firearm, ammunition and other weapons during a stop-and-search operation at the Ngalehun Police Checkpoint in Bo East Division.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Mbayoh, was arrested on Sunday, 12 July 2026, after police officers intercepted a vehicle and conducted a routine search. Officers reportedly discovered a locally made short gun, three cartridges and two knives hidden under the driver’s seat.

Police said the suspect was taken to the Bo East Divisional Headquarters, where he remains in custody while investigators continue their inquiries.

The arrest forms part of ongoing police efforts to prevent armed crimes and remove illegal weapons from communities through increased patrols and checkpoint operations.

The recovered items have been kept as exhibits, while investigations into the case continue.
