Labour Minister Swaray Pays Tribute to Former World Bank Expert Dr. Abu Kargbo
Sia Lucy Kannah The Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has eulogized the late Dr. Abu Kargbo, former Task Team Lead at the World Bank Group Sierra Leone, describing him as a transformative figure whose legacy is etched in service rather than time.
Quoting the timeless sentiment that a worthy life is “not measured by days but by deeds,” Minister Swaray highlighted the profound impact Dr. Kargbo made on Sierra Leone’s social protection landscape.
Minister Swaray recounted the beginning of their professional journey, which began shortly after their ministerial appointment. In just over two years, Dr. Kargbo evolved from a colleague into an “indispensable companion.”
“Dr. Kargbo walked alongside leadership inch by inch, step by step,” the Minister remarked. “He ensured that no reform forgot the human face behind the policy.”
Dr. Kargbo’s career was defined by his unwavering focus on human capital development. During a period of instability within the National Social Safety Net Commission (NASCA), Dr. Kargbo was credited with providing the “quiet competence” needed to secure leadership and institutional stability.
Adding that, he championed the belief that a nation’s true wealth resides in its people, particularly its most impoverished citizens.
“His life reminds us that greatness is not found in titles but in service,” Swaray noted. He called for a renewed national commitment to the work Dr. Kargbo started: reducing vulnerability and ensuring that dignity remains a right for all, not a privilege for the few.
Dr. Abu Kargbo’s life was, in many ways, a “lifelong prayer in action.” As the nation bids farewell to a giant of social reform, his deeds remain the definitive measure of a life spent in the service of humanity.
