The Talking Drum Studio Sierra Leone on Thursday 2nd February 2023 held a day Violence Prevention Community Forum and Dialogue on Electoral Processes at Masabendu Town Community Barry, Bafinfeh Section, Nimiyama Chiefdom- Kono District supported by the Irish Aid.

The engagement was centred on educating communities on violence prevention and dialogue on Electoral Processes ahead of the June 2023 elections.

The forum attracted different individuals including Chiefs, Religious Leaders, Mammy Queens, Bike Riders Unions, Women’s Groups, Teachers, Pupils, Health Workers, parents, business people, Chiefdom Police Officers, farmers, Political Party Representatives and the Media.

This sensitization activity is geared towards violence prevention before, during and after the 2023 general elections in the country and all is set to making sure that many communities are reached in the Kono district and the country at large.

Masabendu Town being one of the communities that suffered from political violence in Kono District during the 2018 General Elections, this tour will ensure safety and prevention of crime and violence on men and women.

Speaking on the activity implementation, Talking Drum Studio said, it is implementing the activity in partnership with its Civil Society Partners through its project titled “Strengthen the Role of Women for Inclusive Governance and a Peaceful Society” in PortLoko, Kambia, Tonkolili, Kenema and Kono Districts for which they have been rolling out different strategic talks and discussion at different levels.

The stakeholders in the community welcomed and thanked Talking Drum Studio and partners for organizing the event, describing it as a timely intervention to stop the violence that marred the 2018 elections from repeating itself and promising to spread the gospel of peace across the community.
