Two lawyers who were granted bail on conspiracy and fraud charges have been taken back into custody after a magistrate revoked their bail.
Principal Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah revoked the bail of Maurice Jenner Mohamed Sesay and John Mans following a hearing at the Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court.
The two were first arraigned on August 10, 2026, and granted bail set at NLe 3,000,000 each, with conditions that they provide a surety who is a Sierra Leonean resident in Freetown and of reputable standing.
They are facing charges of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining property by false pretenses.
During Monday’s hearing, defence lawyer Jessie M. Jengo filed a twelve-page no-case submission. He argued that because the case was opened in 2026, any evidence used by the court must have been created in that year. He said documents from 2024 and 2025 have no connection to the matter and should not be considered.
State Prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay responded by pointing to exhibits that show how the complainant supplied three vehicles based on promises made by the defendants. He told the court that the complainant never met the investor directly but dealt through the defendants and a late man named Thomas Harding.
The prosecutor said the defendants prepared the agreement and made recommendations on behalf of the supposed investor. He also noted that the second defendant, John Mans, is the complainant’s cousin and lawyer, and the complainant relied on his advice.
According to the prosecution, the complainant met the defendants and the late Mr. Harding at the chambers of Harding, Sesay and Partners, where the vehicle delivery was discussed.
