It is reported that 16 out of 58 pupils of Sierra Leone Muslim Congress School arrested and locked in a single cell at the Ross Road Police Station collapsed, with three of them in critical condition.

Concord Times reports that the boys were arrested by police officers for alleged riotous conduct at the school compound on Monday 28 March 2022.

Hospital officials at Jenneh Wright Street, Hospital noted that 13 out of the 16 boys brought in were in stable condition, but three are in critical condition.

Among those arrested was popular comedian Abibu Kargbo aka Agnes Bockarie, who doubles as an old boy of Congress and the National Field Commisioner of Sierra Leone Boys scout.

He explained that while they were observing a candle light ahead of their thanksgiving service, some hoodlums were causing havoc around the area, adding that the Police ran into their school premise and arrested about 53 pupils that were in deep sleep around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Another detainee, Olufemi Ishmael Johnson expressed disappointment at the unprofessional conduct of some of the police officers.

“What left me in complete dilemma was when 58 of us were locked in one cell where I almost lost my life,” he said.

31 of the detainees appeared before Magistrate Wilbri Hamida at Ross Road Court No 1, who granted them all bail and adjourned the matter to Friday 1 May 2022.
