The Chief Matron at the Milton Margai School for the Blind, Wuyetta Kamara has confirmed that at least 5 children were injured during the fire accident at the school compound on Monday 21 February, 2022.

In an interview with media, Wuyatta Conteh stated that the fire accident occurred at 12:00 am, adding that some of the children were forced to jump from a very high building to escape from the fire.

“We have four to five children which legs were broken,” she said.

Conteh explained that during the disaster the children where at the other side of the building from her and the fire was at the middle, adding that prevented them from crossing over to rescue them.

She however noted that with the help of community people the children were rescued.

The chief matron said that lot of the children’s property were destroyed by the fire, but noted that nobody died during the accident.

She further stated that they did not know what actually caused the fire.

 

The affected children said they have lost lot of their belongings in the fire, adding that they do not have a place to sleep.

They also noted that the accident have affected their education, and called on the public to support them.
