Sierra Leone Delegation Explores Agricultural Investment Opportunities in Rwanda
Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister II of Agriculture and Food Security, Ing. Bryan Smart-Kanu, is leading a high-level delegation to Rwanda to explore agricultural investment opportunities and establish strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening the country’s agricultural sector.
The delegation arrived in Rwanda on October 25, 2026, for a week-long study tour scheduled to run until October 31. The visit forms part of Sierra Leone’s efforts to attract investment, strengthen public- and private-sector capacity, and accelerate the implementation of the national Feed Salone programme.
Facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the tour provides an opportunity for Sierra Leonean officials and private-sector representatives to exchange knowledge with their Rwandan counterparts, examine agricultural practices, and identify potential areas for bilateral investment and cooperation.
During the visit, the delegation is engaging with Rwandan government officials, agribusiness leaders, and local producers to explore opportunities in agricultural value-chain development, modern farming techniques, public-private partnerships, and extension services.
The delegation includes government officials, investment representatives, and private-sector stakeholders, with participation from sectors such as poultry, cassava, and coffee. Their engagements are expected to help identify areas where investment, technology transfer, and improved market access could support the growth of Sierra Leonean agribusinesses.
The visit also aligns with the objectives of the Feed Salone programme, the government’s flagship initiative to increase domestic food production, improve food self-sufficiency, create opportunities for agricultural businesses, and transform the country’s agricultural economy.
By studying Rwanda’s agricultural development approaches and engaging potential partners, the delegation aims to identify practical lessons and investment prospects that could be adapted to Sierra Leone’s local conditions.
The study tour is scheduled to conclude on October 31, 2026, with the experience and potential partnerships developed during the visit expected to contribute to Sierra Leone’s broader efforts to strengthen food security and promote sustainable agricultural growth.
