Sierra Leone Army and Correctional Services Join Forces to Boost Local Food Production
Valentine Benjamin Conteh The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and the Correctional Services have stepped up as active partners in the national effort to reduce reliance on imported rice and strengthen local food production under the government’s #FeedSalone initiative.
Leaders from both institutions have committed to cultivating local crops to feed their personnel and support national food security.
This year, the military has cultivated over 350 hectares of rice, while the Correctional Services have planted more than 500 acres of cashew, with plans to expand further.
“The army will no longer be a bystander but a key partner in helping our nation achieve food self-sufficiency,” said the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security added that, with partners like these, #WeWillFeedSalone.
This partnership underscores a growing synergy between Sierra Leone’s security institutions and the agriculture sector, aimed at enhancing local production, creating jobs, and strengthening the country’s self-reliance.
