The Ola During Children Hospital lacks basic health facilities which has exposed the main children hospital in the country as an improper health facility.
According the recent Audit report, x-ray unit was not functional for the period under review, no consumables such as gloves, sensors for pulse oximeters and thermormeters were in limited supply in the special baby care unit.
“The oxygen concentrator was inadequate. As a result, the “Y- connector” was used to enable oxygen connection to more than one baby at a time,” the report revealed.
It further that the Audit Team noted that the unit does not have a water supply and liquid soap to run the unit effectively, revealing that relatives of new-born babies have to fetch water outside the hospital or pay to rescue situation.
Essential Antibiotics like Cephotaxin, Meropenem and Nasal prongs were not available during our visit on 21st March, 2024.
At the Infectious Unit, there was no Paediatric blood pressure machine and salter scale while the High Dependency Unit does not have gloves, and oxygen concentrators.
The Intensive Care Unit has only one thermometer to service patients and there were only four oxygen concentrator for the eleven beds in the unit.
That if they have more than four patients, the staff will refer the other patients to other health facilities.
“There is no sharp box in the ward for the disposal of sharp medical wastes and the facility lacked consumables such as gloves, scrubs and gowns for medical students/staff assigned to the unit,” report revealed.
Poor people are going through a lot in that hospital, everything is bought by the mothers who go there for treatment and also for their children.
This is disgraceful and very disturbing for the country in the 21century. Since I was young teen such practice was going on
Infact the person who wrote the article did not mention very important items that the government dont supply the hospital since they take over .The present government has distroyed the free healthcare.But thank God there is one German NGO that is helping the hospital.Let the public don’t feel that it is the responsibility of the management but it is the neglegence of the so call government.
