Friday relocated to Wanjama village in the small Bo chiefdom about eight minutes’ drive between the two locations. The police checkpoint at Bandama exited before the war and has been the last point of entering into the eastern region.

The chairman Kenema District Council Mohamed ‘O’Level Amadu Sesay assured the police of the Council’s fullest support at all times, adding the trafficking of all illegal items into Kenema city and beyond them.

Addressing the press and other stakeholders at Wanjama village checkpoint, the Director of operation Sierra Leone Police AIG Amadu Mannah explained that the regional commander east Mustapha Gembeh opted to relocate the checkpoint based on several reasons. These included among them so many by-pass routes to the checkpoint, and community settlements having Engulfed the checkpoint, which have resulted in the influx of drugs and other illegal items into Kenema District and beyond.

He added that the checkpoint no longer served its purpose. He pointed out the a few days ago a woman was found with a huge quantity of cannabis sativa on her way to Daru in Kailahun district. He disclosed that the police will secure five acres of land on either side of the road to prevent encroachment into the police operation. He called for community operation at all times.

According to Awoko Newspaper, Chief Mohamed Kanneh of Wanjama village welcomed the deployment of the police, saying they have been yearning for such an opportunity. He assured all of their fullest operations at all times.
