Bank of Sierra Leone Governor Announces Date For The Circulation of New Leones Currency

The Bank Governor of Sierra Leone has announced date for the start of the circulation of the new leones currency in Sierra Leone.

Bank Governor Professor Kelfala Morana Kallon has on Monday 15 November, 2021 tabled in Parliament the statutory instrument (Redenomination of the Leone Characteristics Regulation 2021), No 14 of 2021. The Instrument is intended to amend which Bank of Sierra Leone Act of 2019.

The Instrument if approved will also give the Bank Governor the green light to continue the process of redenominating the Leone.

The Bank Governor said that circulation of the new leones currency will begin in 2022, stating that the new currency will feature the faces of prominent Sierra Leoneans.
