Following the repeated postponements of primary elections in the North-West and North-East Regions of the country, concerned stalwarts in governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have averred that the National Leader, His Excellency, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio must act tough to save the party from further embarrassment.

It could be recalled that the SLPP Secretariat run by the National Chairman, Dr. Prince Alexander Harding has postponed the regional primaries for the umpteenth time on security grounds without finding any amicable way of conducting them.

Those primary elections scheduled for last weekend were postponed and consequently, the Young Generation elections scheduled for this weekend may be postponed thereby unnecessarily delaying the entire election process.

According to a concerned stalwart, who asked not to be name, “The repeated postponements of the primary elections will definitely vanish should be party Secretariat continue posting them,” adding, “People are sick and tired of the unnecessary postponement of elections and what they should realize is that the people want to move on.”

The grassroots supporters that spoke to The Satellite said they become cheesed-off with the repeated postponements of the primary elections and therefore called for the immediate intervention of the National Leader to ensure the party moves on, noting that primary elections should be a friendly contest rather than a do-or-die battle among party members and supporters who should consider themselves as one family.

Another SLPP stalwart averred that the postponement of the North-West and North-East primary elections at the weekend was a big slap in the face of the SLPP Secretariat whom he accused of manipulating the postponement of elections to ensure its favoured candidates’ triumph despite they seem unpopular.

The Satellite reported that, the stalwart reiterated the intervention of President Bio as the National Leader to ensure the primary elections are conducted as scheduled without much ado.

“It is very important that the SLPP Secretariat conducts all the primary elections and focus on peace and unity now because there are many controversial issues that we need to resolve or handle urgently as a party before we go into the 2023 national elections else it will be an uphill task for us to win those elections,” the stalwart averred.
