The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has pledged a closer partnership with the Sierra Leone DJs Union (SLeDU) to enhance national development and communication efforts.
The announcement was made during a familiarization meeting with the union’s leadership on 2 December at his Youyi Building office in Brookfields.
Minister Bah emphasized the pivotal role DJs play in information dissemination, sharing a personal connection to the sector: “I know the importance of DJs because my father was a DJ in the eastern part of Freetown. He loved playing music, so I will not forget to include DJs in all our activities.”

He acknowledged a current challenge affecting the Ministry’s “SALONE BIG PASS WE ALL” communication campaign, noting that some local songs have not received sufficient airplay due to limited engagement with DJs a gap he promised to address. “I believe we are going to work together on all the projects the union wants to embark on moving forward,” he added.
SLeDU President Ibrahim “Prezo” Koroma expressed gratitude to the Minister for his initiative and emphasized the importance of integrating DJs into the Ministry’s weekly press briefings. “Mr. Minister, we have DJs across the country, and if your Ministry works with us, we can achieve the big picture, which is information dissemination,” Koroma said.
Koroma also noted that while the Ministry had undertaken several projects in the past, DJs had not been consistently involved. He said the Union is optimistic about a new era of collaboration under Minister Bah’s leadership.
