Dr. Kapuwa has disclosed that they have dismissed, suspended, and queried nurses working at the Connaught Hospital for professional misconduct in the last couple of years.

Dr. Kapuwa made this disclosure while updating the public on the activities of the Hospital.

Dr. Kapuwa in his statement described the Connaught Hospital as the best, as they had trained healthcare professionals whom other hospitals don’t have, adding that the level of professionalism among the staff is very high.

He further spoke about the development of continuous medical training programs by the nurse’s council, stating that one of the criteria for renewal of license for medical doctors and nurses is that the medical personnel must show the courses they had offered.

He confirmed that they want to make Connaught Hospital one of the best places for medical treatment in Sierra Leone as they have launched electronic medical records.

“We have launched the electronic medical records, replacing the paper registration which will easily facilitate the treatment of patients”.

He disclosed that the attitude of some people and the lack of adequate resources are some of the challenges facing them while doing their work. He added that they need additional resources to buy medical equipment to ensure an effective service delivery at all times.

He said several waste bins had been put at strategic places inside the hospital to ensure the place was always clean.

According to him, the Ministry of Health is pushing very hard to enable them to get the required equipment to facilitate their work, and also talked about the machines the government had procured to help identify illnesses, something he noted was lacking in the past.
