The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union have deployed a joint technical pre-electoral fact-finding mission in Sierra Leone based on regional and continental electoral criteria.
The three-day mission which was headed by the Amb. Abdel-Fatau Nsash was launched on the 12th of April 2023.
During a courtesy visit to President Bio, the team informed him that the mission aims to consult with political actors and stakeholders in the country to assess the country’s electoral preparedness, challenges, and the need for additional areas of support from the ECOWAS and the African Union. to guarantee the smooth Conduct of the general elections
The joint mission is expected to meet with all political actors and key stakeholders, as well as the international community, to identify gaps and support efforts to build the necessary consensus to create an enabling environment for peaceful and credible elections in Sierra Leone.
