EDSA Announces Temporary Power Shutdown in Several Communities in Freetown
The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced that several network faults are currently disrupting electricity supply in parts of the Western Area.
In a public notice issued on 20th july 2026, EDSA listed the affected locations as Babadorie 1 and 2, Pearl Hotel, the Tourist Board in Aberdeen, Murray Town Barracks, Grammar School, Okeyky, Tengbeh Town 1 and 2, Fenton Town 2, Gloucester, Leicester, Kortright, Radio HT, and Leicester Peak.
The Authority further disclosed that it is prioritising critical faults, including incidents of cable vandalism at Juba, Portoh, and Goderich, which have interrupted supply to a key substation. Additionally, faulty transformers have been reported at Eacon (behind the American Embassy), Sam Sumana Drive at IMATT, and Bottle Field along Mission Road in Calaba Town, Wellington.
According to EDSA, ongoing restoration efforts have been significantly delayed due to persistent heavy rainfall across the Western Area. The Authority explained that for safety reasons, technical work on overhead lines, underground cables, and other electrical infrastructure cannot be carried out during severe weather conditions.
“Technical teams are on standby and will resume restoration work immediately once conditions are safe,” the statement noted.
EDSA has apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused and expressed appreciation for their patience and understanding as efforts continue to restore normal electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible.
