The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China has officially handed over 15 protocol vehicles to the Government of Sierra Leone to support preparations for the forthcoming ECOWAS Summit.
The formal handover ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Freetown on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, marked another milestone in the longstanding bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and China.
The vehicles are expected to strengthen Sierra Leone’s logistical capacity and support transportation arrangements for visiting heads of state, dignitaries, and delegations attending the regional summit.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Zhao Yong, said the donation reflects China’s continued commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s development and its growing role in regional affairs. He described the gesture as a practical demonstration of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, expressed appreciation to the Government and people of China for the support.
The Minister said the donation highlights the strong partnership between both countries and will contribute significantly to ensuring Sierra Leone successfully hosts the ECOWAS Summit with efficiency and dignity.

He reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with China in areas including trade, infrastructure, education, and health.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of official handover documents and an inspection of the vehicles by the Chinese Ambassador and the Foreign Affairs Minister.
