The former British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone Komrabai Peter Penfold was officially welcomed to Police Headquarters on Thursday 1st December 2022, by the Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu.

The Honorary Paramount Chief, Komrabai Peter Penfold’s visit was largely centered around getting first-hand assessment information on the activities and operations of Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

The IGP briefed the High Commissioner on the positive strides taken so far in maintaining and improving Police structures. Mr. Sellu discussed other wide-ranging issues which mainly focused on:
Training/capacity building, Logistical Support, Public Order Management Training and Equipment, Electioneering Process, Knowledge Transfer, Drugs Trafficking, Abuse, and associated challenges.

IGP Fayia Sellu furthered that having training packages and relevant equipment to do policing, will improve the SLP’s performance and service delivery at the highest level.

PC Komrabai Penfold thanked and appreciated the IGP and the Police management for being able to maintain existing policing structures and taking positive steps to build on new ones.

He noted that the British Government is anticipating peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections – paramount of which the SLP plays a pivotal role in achieving same.

Director of Corporate Affairs AIG Memunatu Konteh-Jalloh speaks on public order management training, equipment, and facilities.

Acting Director of Crime Services Commissioner Joseph Lahai, spoke on the relevance of cyber security, forensic investigations, and the challenges faced due to limited sophisticated equipment to carry out analyses.

Head of Peace Keeping Operations Commissioner Kadie Samura, on her part, spoke on the issue of peacekeeping training facilities, vehicles, and expertise.

ACP Francis Brima Meinday Acting Director of the Operational Support Division also dilated on training and securing the right equipment to aid their work.

Director of Human Resource Management AIG Patrick Johnson and the Principal Staff Officer ACP Ishmail Keita also formed part of the discussions.

As a parting statement, High Commissioner Penfold noted that it is prudent for the SLP to be trained and get its experts in different disciplines. He assured the IGP and his team of his maximum cooperation on the issues discussed.
